Patella Alta Knee Brace

Patella Alta Knee Brace

What is Patella Alta?

In your knee joint, there is a natural placement for your patella (knee cap) to sit. The patella is its one small sesamoid bone that floats in the groove of the knee joint held in place by both the quadriceps tendon and the patellar tendon. Patella alta is when the patella sits slightly higher than it is meant to sit in its groove.

How to use a Knee Brace for Patella Alta

GenuTrain S brace from Bauerfeind Medical Canada is being used in this video to help provide support and proper structure for patella alta.

How a Knee Brace Helps Patella Alta

The GenuTrain S brace is helping the patella stay in line. With patella alta, the patella is naturally shifted too high from its neutral position in the knee joint. This can cause pain and discomfort when walking and completing everyday tasks. It can also cause cartilage loss if the bones grind together. The brace provides comfort, stability and proprioception to guide the patella into the correct placement.

Benefits of bracing joints as they recover

Bracing any joint while you recover increases the stability of the joint in question, improves the alignment of the joint by gently guiding it into the correct position and reduces movements that could exacerbate the injury.
