Patella Alta Education

Educating our Patient on Patella Alta

We firmly believe that educating our patients on every aspect of their condition is an extremely important part of treatment. We always educate our patients about the following:

  • Information about their condition
  • Address their concerns
  • How to prevent pain
  • How things like braces can help supplement healing

Knee Coddling for Patella Alta

Patella alta results from tension in the quadriceps tendon pulling the knee cap upwards. Coddling is gently pushing the patella downwards to stretch out the tight tendon and allow the knee cap to sit in the correct position. If you have patella alta, try and stretch out this tendon for 3-5 minutes at a time to really allow a decrease in tension.

Using Stairs with a Knee Injury

Stairs can be tricky with a knee injury. To avoid pain when using the stairs, follow these steps… Walk up the stairs with the non-injured leg first and bring the injured leg to meet it. Take each step two feet at a time. Walk down the stairs with the injured leg first so that it can stay straight and meet it with the non-injured leg (this one bends). Again, take each step two feet at a time.
