Laser Therapy or Cold Laser Therapy

Laser therapy

Therapeutic laser therapy is a non-invasive and pain free light-based therapy that uses infrared and red light. It has been shown to promote angiogenesis (blood vessel formation), bone formation, muscle and nerve regeneration.

Therapeutic laser therapy provides patients with a safe and effective therapy for injured tissues and inflammation.  The photons of light stimulate ATP (energy molecules) production in cells to accelerate healing. This enhances your body’s own natural recovery systems for cellular regeneration of soft tissues, resulting in pain relief and increased joint mobility through promotion of collagen production (essential for cartilage and ligament healing).

At PhysioMax Wellness, we have found laser therapy to be very useful for healing of joints and their surrounding muscles and tendons.  Depending on the injury and its location, a span of 4-8 laser treatments can have a profound effect on healing and pain management.

Acute and chronic conditions that may be treated using laser therapy:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Gout
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Sprains (ligament injuries)
  • Strains (muscle injuries)
  • Sports-related Injuries
  • Tendonitis

As Norman Doidge reports, in his best selling book “The Brain’s way of Healing”, light speeds healing, decreases pain, improves sleep, improves vitamin D levels, and may even decrease cancer risk. Doidge goes as far as saying that light therapy could repair sick brain cells and make them more receptive to re-wiring. Doidge praises the use of low-level laser therapy, which supposedly helps the body “marshal its own energy and its own cellular resources to heal itself with no side effects.”
