Gait Analysis
Gait Analysis
What is a gait analysis?
A gait analysis observes the motions you go through when walking naturally. The observer watches your movement patterns and measures body movements, body mechanics, and the activity of the muscles when you walk. This analysis helps your physiotherapist determine the level of need for custom corrective orthotics.
How is a gait analysis conducted?
The gait analysis assesses the way you walk. Physiotherapists look for:
- Arch types
- Ankle range of motion (ROM)
- Subtalar joint ROM
- Midtarsal joint ROM
- Toe position
- Knee position
- Ankle position
- Phases of gait
- AND MORE
? ALL of these factors help to determine which muscles, joints and other tissues may need to be adjusted to allow you to walk properly without biomechanical issues, pain or postural imbalances.
