What is Neck Degenerative Disease/Osteoarthritis:
It is a term often given to a neck condition, when there is a loss of articular cartilage, along with changes in the joints and bone. Most commonly joints to occur in at C5-6 then C6-7.
3) Degenerative Joint Disease
Pain Pattern & Complains:
Neck pain is described as dull achy, and is often joint use. Patient particularly complains of morning stiffness and that is aggravated by repetitive usage. Patient may also present with nerve root compression, in some cases.
General treatments:
The chiropractor may choose between a variety of symptoms depending on the patient presentation. Chiropractor may initially prescribe rest, heat and acute mobilizations; along with pain free range of motion exercises. Long axis traction and mobilizations to the surrounding joint areas may be used. Adjunct therapies such a acupuncture, electrotherapy and rehab may be used. In severe cases surgical intervention is prescribed.
