Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my first appointment last?

For Physiotherapy, your first appointment generally lasts about one hour. A thorough assessment is conducted and treatment is started the same day. If you complete your forms at home and bring them in, then you don’t even need to come 15 minutes early for your first appointment.

How should I know what service I really need?

This depends on several factors. Have you had this condition before and what type of therapy has worked or not worked for you before. There are a variety of types of therapies that can help eliminate your problem if it is related to the musculoskeletal system. Physiotherapists have a great deal of education in treating all joints including peripheral (arms/legs) and spinal. Chiropractors have a large focus on the spine and within Chiropractic there is even a large variance on the therapeutic approach.

For example, some are “adjustment” focused to normalize mal-alignments in the spine while others put an equal focus on exercise and modalities. Acupuncture is yet another modality that can help so many conditions and can be used by our Physiotherapist and our Chiropractor. Remember, if you have a medical problem that is more than just musculoskeletal in nature and you have exhausted the conventional western medicine route or would prefer to use a more natural therapy instead of drugs or surgery, then acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine is a great option for you. We always advise you to discuss your matter with your physician.

Are treatments covered by health insurance programs?

Most people, if they work for a large or medium sized company, have some sort of extended health insurance. This type of insurance often covers Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, Orthotics and a few other health care disciplines.

It is best for you to call your insurance company and ask this question. Also ensure you know how much coverage there is per year and per treatment and if there is a deductible. Lastly, ensure you find out if you need a doctor’s referral or not.

If you require help with this, we would be happy to call for you, however, you would still have to give the insurance company permission to talk to us.

Who should I contact with billing questions?

If you have any questions or concerns about billing, please call us (905) 315-9955 or email us (nopain@physiomaxwellness.ca) any time. Our front desk staff would be more than happy to explain the process and help you understand it.

They will answer all of your questions so that you are completely satisfied and have a 100% understanding of the billing that is being applied for your therapy.

How many treatments will I require?

This is a common question and depends on several factors. It is fair to say that, in general, most conditions require 2 to 3 treatments per week for about four weeks, then the frequency decrease for another few weeks.

Having said this, some only require half of this duration and others who may have a long existing condition, may require a longer period of treatments.

What will happen once therapy is completed?

Once your therapy is completed, you will be given instructions on what you should do at home to ensure that you maintain your improved condition and prevent the same problem from returning.

Your physician may also be notified of your status and that you have completed your program.
